Precious (2009)

I don't care what kind of baiting is going on here. Precious is solid. My concern is that Lee Daniels is a little too good at lulling white folk into a false sense of understanding while deepening racialization in the process. Will have to see The Butler to confirm.

  3. MildredFierce Precious is ripe fodder for the Britta Perrys of the world, but I suppose it can't be faulted for that in and of itself. If you aren't an overweight black girl living in the Harlem slums circa 1987 I suspect that there are two reactions you can have here: You can, like Mikko, chide it for overselling a tragedy, or, like me approximately, you can say "Mm. Very sad. I'll take my Bachelors in Afro-American studies to go please."
