Alex Proyas has shown himself to be a really good visuals director (this, Dark City, I Robot, Knowing) even if the movies aren't always that good (Knowing, in particular, sucked) but this one is great. Gothic slime oozes from every frame. Plus a great genre cast brings it hard.
