The 39 Steps (1935)

An everyman hero who’s the pursuer and the pursued. All the classic elements of a Hitchcock film are perfectly articulated here which stands as both the culmination of his career to date in the UK and the ideas for his other 'wrongly accused' films. This is a personal favourite.

  1. ross I know this is supposed to be a classic, but I didn't connect with it like I did with Hitchcock's other movies. Sounds like I should give it second watch.

  2. dane I can understand that, especially with his reputation for his later films that are more macabre and branded him 'the master of suspense' Try and give the 39 steps a second chance and see how you feel this time around.

  3. ross Good point. Definitely need to consider this was early in his career. Sounds like I'm set for a rewatch.
