The 39 Steps (1935)

First clear creative peak in H’s British period & first fully successful film in his deepening oeuvre. Introduced the notion of the wrong man accused for a crime he did not commit. Nonstop string of action sequences, chase scenes punctuated by witty dialogue & riveting suspense.

The 39 Steps (1935)

An everyman hero who’s the pursuer and the pursued. All the classic elements of a Hitchcock film are perfectly articulated here which stands as both the culmination of his career to date in the UK and the ideas for his other 'wrongly accused' films. This is a personal favourite.
