Bridesmaids (2011)
I feel liike a traitor for saying this but: I didn't really like it. All the pieces were were great, but the whole wasn't. when it comes down to it, I couldn't get on board with whiney Wiig's character's arc. If it were about the supporting 'maids, I'd feel differently.

Jaws (1975)
Somehow, I just saw this for the first time. Despite it swimming in my conscious for years, despite laughing at my mom's fear of the ocean because of it- it is SO GOOD. Amazing story, awesome shots, great suspense, and an ending that actually surprised me. One of S.S.'s best.

Days of Heaven (1978)
Absolutely beautiful- reportedly filmed over years in order to capture everything at the magic hour and it was worth it. Unfortunately, it's also so slow I had to break it down and watch it over a few nights myself. Nevertheless, lovely young Gere, Malick poetry.

New Year's Eve (2011)
Why did I do this to myself? So you didn't have to. DON'T DO IT. Make it your resolution. I cried, but only because poor Robert Deniro chose to maroon himself in the middle of this mess.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)
I was excited for this adaptation after reading from the author's widow that it was truer to his vision. Fincher delivers a stunning production, Mara is a brilliant psychopath, and Reznor's soundtrack sets the whole thing on cold fire (is that a thing? That's what it felt like).

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992)
Merry Christmas, you filthy animal. On par for excellence with the first in my books, this is the perfect movie for taking out holiday stress on Joe Pesci. Buzz's change of heart, pigeons, and proof that you can mess with a lot of things, but you can't mess with kids on Christmas.

Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011)
Brilliant, nuanced performance from the Olsen sister- the weight of the world in glances. Unnerving, but missing pieces in this story about the missing months of a troubled younger sister's life.

Melancholia (2011)
Relentlessly bleak, beautiful- actually left me staring at the sky with abject worry and wonder for weeks.
