Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)

Some scenes sucked, succumbing to a stereotypical story and sour script, but Star Trek succeeds as a spectacle with superior sets, sounds, and starship shots.

What does it say about a film when you cheer for the bad guy? There's no doubt Into Darkness is exciting and looks great, but as a whole, it's pretty darn messy. After two films, they have yet to create a fully realized world that I wish to return to. Next mission? Count me out.

Love the parallels and callbacks. Cumberbatch really equated himself well into this franchise. They got the tone just right for a big Hollywood sci-fi action film. Keep up the good work JJ.

Fun, well paced movie that keep you captivated. Wished there was more miniskirts on that bridge.

Pros - Khan was interesting, Weller was good, action was great. Cons - Ridiculous use of "Old Spock," several holes (ie - why is ship underwater in the pre-title scene, how many effing 'flagships' does starfleet have?), slightly convoluted plot. All that said, it's a good film.

Everything a summer blockbuster should be. Wasn't as blown away as I remember being for the first one, so I would say minutely and fractionally not as good as the 2009 instalment.

Okay action movie. Went to see this movie with too much expectation since the previous one was excellent. Benedict C. is saving this movie by doing a good job as a evil character. 70% because the plot was predictable. But I still rather go see this movie than Iron Man.

Plain and simple, the story is great, the action is great, this series is great. Homerun! Touch down! Abrams shoots he scores! Stand outs: Spock, Cumberbatch, and Alice Eve

No in-depth review needed here. A fun movie made very well that left me satisfied as a fan of the Star Trek franchise. As the ancient Klingon proverb states; bortaS bIr jablu’DI’ reH QaQqu’ nay’.

Actually enjoyable! I took issue with the styling, which distracted at times from what was actually going on, but overall a good action space movie. I have more good to say about it than bad, and that's way more than I can say than the last one.

Vastly superior to its offensive previous installment, Darkness does a better job eschewing scenarios that require logic or coherence, and so is less blatant with its (still copious) plot holes. But for the cynical franchise grabs, I genuinely enjoyed its syrupy, empty calories.

Fun but incredibly cheesy. Lots of Deus ex Machina being thrown around. My biggest complaint was that seeing it in 3D made all of the close combat scenes difficult to focus on. Worth a watch but don't expect more than a typical action flick.
