The Cabin in the Woods (2012)

Interesting idea executed in a bland way. The "twist" tipped its hand far too early to be effective. Not terribly cast, and aesthetics are decent enough. It just didn't click. By the end I was pretty disengaged. Fun alternative to "traditional" slasher films, but not amazing.

Cabin a cult classic? Come on.

Funny yes, clever yes, scary not really, unique no. It's enjoyable, but I feel like the meta-treatment of genre is often given way more credit than it's owed. This might as well have been an extra long Community Halloween special.

I read the entire Wikipedia plot synopsis before watching this. Even so, in the way it was crafted I still had no idea what was going to happen next. Beautifully paced, amazing original laughs, likable actors, basically everything that's shit about the horror genre done right.

I loved it. Totally unexpected and enjoyable.

If you don't like this movie, you don't like movies. Give it ten minutes and it will Genre-Bendre (c) it's way right into your heart.

Maybe it's a case of hype dulling the final product but I gotta say that while I enjoyed this I don't think it's the classic some have made it out to be. There's a lot of great ideas on display but it had tone issues and some pretty bad CGI in places took away some enjoyment.

The most fun I've had in theaters in a long time.

An exceptionally clever deconstruction of the survival horror genre with a competent and entertaining script just absurd enough to introduce a vein of levity to the dark subtext. Unfortunately the violence wanders into inappropriate intensity tainting the skilled delivery.

Yes! Yes! Yes! And more yes! Cabin in the Woods is scary, exciting, inventive, hilarious, skillfully executed, and not at all what it seems. An instant cult classic in every way, and a must-see for everyone (not just horror fans). Go see it. Now.

It takes you on a ride from beginning to end. You will cringe with the tension in one second then literally laugh out loud the very next.

You couldn't make a -will be- cult classic film as good as this in a lab. A must see, preferably in theatre.
